Alejandro Santiago
These two works by Alejandro Santiago represent two of the best works I have seen by the artist, from the period 2004 to 2007.
The balance between texture, form, and color are Alejandro at his best.
One work is brut and powerful with the bottle of mezcal and the words Mescal Oaxaca written on the label.
This representing his love of Oaxaca and the addiction Alejandro had to mezcal, which eventually caused his death.
The second work has a very different feeling.
It has a poetic and ethereal feeling. Both light and magical with the typical abstracted human figure by Alejandro set in a background of lyrical textured and colored forms.
The size of these works is quite unusual for Alejandro.
They are both much smaller than his usual format yet still have a monumental presence.
