Diego Rivera Watercolor Breaks Record Price

Yesterday, May 15th, 2019 Christies sold a watercolor by Mexican master, Diego Rivera in its Post-War and Contemporary Art evening sale in New York. The watercolor was titled NiƱa Sentada con Flores (girl sitting with flowers), and was executed in 1949.

The piece was estimated to sell between 150,000 - 250,000 usd and sold for almost twice that amount. The realised price for the piece was 375,000 usd, breaking all records for a watercolor by Diego Rivera to be sold in a public auction.

Last year, in 2018, an oil on canvas painting by Rivera titled The Rivals sold for 9.76 million usd. This was the highest price realized for a work of art of any medium by the artist to be sold at public auction.
